Sharp cuts in staff and resources would have to be made for the School Committee to meet the FY15 budget suggested by the Warrant Committee, according to Milton Public Schools officials during a recent School Committee budget presentation. The list of proposed cuts, which include eliminating or reducing full-time positions, reflected the Warrant Committee’s request that the district consider a budget that is $747,591 less than what the School Committee is requesting for FY15. The School Committee is seeking a 5.6 percent increase over their FY14 budget, from $37,566,551 to $39,674,142 for FY15. The FY15 total includes $500,000 from one-time non-recurring funds. The Warrant Committee, meanwhile, is asking the district to consider a 3.6 percent budget increase to $38,926,551 for FY15, which also includes $500,000 for one-time funds.
