Rep. Walter Timilty recently announced that the commonwealth’s Civil Service Commission will administer the entry-level Civil Service Examination for positions on the fire service on Saturday April 26.
Applicants must be postmarked by March 17. Scores can be applied to the municipalities of the applicant’s choice.
“The public safety of a community begins with those who protect and serve the citizens, so I am hopeful that we will field a plethora of qualified applicants, willing to take this first step towards serving our communities,” Timilty said.
The Human Resources Division of the state says it is hoping for a qualified, diverse applicant pool to take the exam. Applicants can request to take the exam in Spanish, though by doing so they must also take an exam testing English comprehension the same day. Members of the military who cannot be in-state on April 26 should contact Human Resources to request a makeup examination.
Applicants must be at least 19 years old as of March 31, 2014, be a non-smoker at the time of and after one’s appointment, and pass a medical and physical ability examination prior to appointment.
An online application is available at www.mass.gov/civilservice. A $200 application fee will be payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts unless a fee waiver is requested. Questions should be directed to Timilty’s office.
