Milton, MA - In celebration of outgoing First Parish Music Director and organist Emma Jean Moulton’s 28 years of service to the church and town, First Parish will present an evening of music on Friday, May 16, featuring a Julia Child mini-opera as well as a performance by Moulton.
The evening will also serve as a fundraiser for repairs that are needed to the blower of the church’s historic Schlicker organ. Approximately $20,000 in repairs are needed.
To open the show Moulton will perform a fast, rousing piece by Widor, “Toccata from the Fifth Symphony,” on the Schlicker organ.
Then will follow “Bon Appetit,” a mini-opera featuring Vanessa Schukis as Julia Child and resident Tim Steele on the piano. The 30-minute opera features a lively score, many of Child’s words and witticisms, and equal parts drama and comedy.
The audience will then be invited into the Parish Hall for champagne and Julia Child-inspired dessert.
The show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and will be available at the door at First Parish Church, 535 Canton Ave.
