“MILTON, MA – Sen. Brian A. Joyce, who has been in the legislature for 20 years, will not seek re-election.
“I have worked hard for Milton and achieved results, while always trying to abide by the rules. I will continue to work hard for Milton and all of the district but will not seek re-election,” the senator said Feb. 22.
He followed up his terse statement with a letter posted on line to thank his constituents.
“To the Residents of the Norfolk, Bristol, & Plymouth District:
“For almost 20 years, it has been my honor to serve the residents of Milton, Randolph, Avon, Canton, Braintree, Stoughton, Sharon, Easton, East Bridgewater and West Bridgewater.
“I’ve had the opportunity to participate in historic debates, cast a critical vote against the death penalty and stood firm for equal marriage rights when neither position was popular because I believed them to be the right votes. I sought to protect innocent, disabled children from abuse, and to provide seniors with a choice of home care over a nursing home.
“I helped secure hundreds of millions of dollars for new school buildings and education funding, and for business district revitalizations. We restored the majestic beauty of the Neponset River and Blue Hills reservations, and most importantly, provided constituent services to thousands throughout the years.
“I thank you for the honor of working on your behalf and want you to know that I will not seek reelection. Mary and I are especially grateful for the many recent gestures of support and acts of love.
Brian A. Joyce
