The conference is sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council and uses the nation’s capital – visits to historical sites, meetings with government leaders and inspiring programs – as a classroom to develop the leadership qualities of the nation’s most promising young students.
Zackary, the eldest of Richard and Lisa Fischer’s three children, offered his thoughts on what traits were most desirable in a leader.
“Discernment, integrity and dedication,” said the fifth-grader.
His mother is a professional photographer (www.lisafischerphotography.com) and is doing a fund-raiser for the $2,500 necessary for their son to attend the week’s conference in Washington, D.C. on July 26 through 31. She is taking individual or family portraits for a donation of $40 on Saturday, May 30, at her home studio at 546 Eliot St. or, weather permitting, at a nearby scenic location.
