Barclay Feather, 90, of Milton, died at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton on Dec. 30.
Born in Watertown, he graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1937, and Harvard College in the class of 1941. He also received a master’s degree from the Harvard Business School and a master’s in history from Boston University.
Mr. Feather joined the Navy during World War II, and served in both the war and in the Naval Reserves. He retired as a lieutenant commander.
He taught history and later was the director of libraries at Milton Academy. He was associated with the academy for over 50 years and was a mentor to both students and faculty alike. He was a member of the vestry at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and the All Saints Parish by the Sea in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
He lived in Milton the past 60 years and was active in the community. He was a longtime Town Meeting member, member of the Council on Aging, and a 40-year member of the Milton Civil War Society. Mr. Feather was the Harvard Alumni Association’s secretary for the class of 1941. He participated in the association’s fund-raising activities.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Harding) Feather; his children, Mary F. McPeak and her partner, Wilbur D. White, of Arlington, and Robert B. Feather, of Boston; his grandchildren, Andrew D.F. McPeak, of Brookline, and Matthew M.F. McPeak, of Brighton; and his son-in-law, David H. McPeak, of Brookline.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. in St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 112 Randolph Ave.
