Bernard Halpert

Bernard Halpert, 90, died July 29 while in the comfort and care of his home and family.
Born in New York City, he received his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College and his master’s degree in bacteriology from Hofstra University.
Mr. Halpert served in the Army during World War II where he engaged in biomedical research. Later, he worked in numerous aspects of the healthcare and laboratory medicine fields, ultimately founding Biometric Affiliated Research Laboratories in Long Island City, N.Y.
He retired to the Allentown, Pa. area many years ago. Mr. Halpert cared deeply about his family and many friends, and always enjoyed spending time with them. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He was an accomplished chef, a patron of the opera and a world traveler.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Halpert; his children, Susanna and Paul Levitt, of California, Joan Halpert and Peter Hanson, formerly of Milton, Felicia Halpert and Constantine Rodis, of New Jersey, Jonathan and Arlene Halpert, of New York, and Margaret LeMay-Lewis and James Lewis, of Iowa; his former wife, Nancy S. Halpert, of New York; and 10 grandchildren.
Burial was in Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, N.Y.
