Catherine G. Crowley

Catherine G. “Kay” (Rooney) Crowley, 97, of Milton, died at home Aug. 12.
Born in Boston in 1911, she was the daughter of the late Bernard J. Rooney and Hannah (Donovan) Rooney.
Mrs. Crowley graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls in 1929 and worked at the Hamburg American Steamship Lines, where her love of travel began and continued throughout her life.
She embraced life and was a joyful presence to her family and many friends who remember her gaiety and laughter. Her deep faith gave her strength in dark times and enriched her life. She was kind, generous, loyal and loving and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Wife of the late Edward J. Crowley, she is survived by her daughters, Patricia Mitchell and her husband, J. Douglas, of Avon, Conn., and Nancy M. Crowley, of Milton; her granddaughter, Caitlin P. Mitchell, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her sisters-in-law, Helen Crowley, May Cotton and Marguerite Yaxter; and many nieces and nephews, including Claire Quirk, of San Diego, who was like a sister.
She was the mother of the late Edward J. “Teddy” Crowley; the sister of the late Mary Wagner, Arthur Rooney, Bernard Rooney, Daniel Rooney and Joseph Rooney; and the niece of the late Mary Ann McNulty.
Mrs. Crowley’s daughters extend their deepest gratitude to Margaret Naughton, who gave extraordinary care to their mother in the last decade of her life, and to the Partners Hospice workers who helped the family during her last six months.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Elizabeth Church on Aug. 15. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Boston Catholic TV, 55 Chapel St., Box 9109, Newtonville, MA 02460.
Arrangements were by the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home.
