Charles F. Dixon

Charles F. Dixon, 94, of Quincy, died Nov. 20.

He was a retired Boston Globe photographer for 38 years and Globe Santa.

Mr. Dixon served in the Coast Guard during World War II, escorting troop ships in dangerous waters and participated in the occupation of Germany. He retired from the Coast Guard Reserve, achieving the rank of full commander.

He was born and raised in South Boston, and was the son of John “Joe” Dixon, a Boston newspaper photographer; and Ellen Buchanan Dixon, a Boston newspaper poet.

He is survived by his brother Eugene Dixon and his wife, Angela, both Boston newspaper photographers; sisters Claire Boyce, of Milton, a candid photographer, and Marion-Lundfelt Odermatt, a newspaper columnist; his friend of many years, Dr. Maria Krivoshlioff, D.M.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late John “Jack” Dixon and George Dixon, both Boston newspaper photographic editors; Robert Dixon, a photographer for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority; infant Frederick Dixon; Helen “Joan” Connors, a commercial photographer; and Ruth Dixon.

A funeral service was held in the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home on Nov. 24. Burial was in Bourne National Cemetery.
