Daniel G. Coughlin died Oct. 26 at the John Scott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Braintree.

Born in Boston, he was raised in Mission Hill and was a graduate of Mission High School. He was a 30-year resident of Milton.

He was an employee of the Boston Public Works Department for 30 years, retiring in 1984.

Mr. Coughlin was the past president of St. Christopher’s St. Vincent de Paul Society, and a former volunteer at Father Bill’s Place in Quincy and St. Agatha Church. He was a gifted singer and lover of music, an avid Boston Red Sox fan, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Husband of 58 years of the late Helen P. (Lyons) Coughlin, he is survived by his children, Daniel G. Coughlin Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of West Dennis, and Joseph P. Coughlin, of Milton; his brothers, Arthur Coughlin, of Weymouth, and Paul Coughlin, of Braintree; and his grandchildren, Daniel C. Coughlin and Michael P. Coughlin.

He was the father of the late Maryann Coughlin, Connie Coughlin and Francis Coughlin, brother of the late Mary Powers, Catherine Bowman, John Coughlin, Albert Coughlin, Harold Coughlin, Edward Coughlin and Bernard Coughlin, and grandfather of the late Brian F. Coughlin.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on Oct. 29. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
