Deborah A. (Driscoll) Joyce, 53, of Boxborough, died at home April 27 following a two-year battle with brain cancer.
Mrs. Joyce was raised in Lee, where she was born on May 27, 1957, the daughter of the late J. Kenneth and Ruth Driscoll. She graduated from Lee High School in 1975 and Stonehill College in 1979.
During summers in college, she worked as a guide at the Old Corner House in Stockbridge, the first site of the Norman Rockwell Museum. At that time, she came to know Norman Rockwell at the end of his life.
After college, she worked for four years with Merrill Lynch in Boston and then 10 years in money management with Hellman Jordan Management Co. in Boston. Following her work career, she focused on raising her two children. She married her husband Christopher in 1986.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend who will be greatly missed for her keen intellect, warmth and humor.
From her childhood in western Massachusetts, she developed a knowledge of and a love for all things of nature, and throughout her life she found great pleasure in identifying birds or the various trees and plants in the forest. She was a dog lover and will be missed greatly by her yellow lab, Jack.
She loved the arts including live music, theater and museums. She found great pleasure in reading and participating in book groups. She was also a firm believer in, and a strong supporter of, many progressive political issues on a local, statewide and national basis.
She loved all sports, particularly hockey, where she found pleasure in supporting and watching her children play for many years. She would have been pleased with the Boston Bruins’ series win over the Montreal Canadians on the day of her death.
She is survived by her husband, Christopher P. Joyce; her children, Seamus D. Joyce and Madeline S. Joyce; a brother, Michael F. Driscoll, of Yarmouthport; four in-laws in Milton, Jerry Joyce, Sen. Brian Joyce, Joanne Stanley and Gerard Joyce; other in-laws; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
A funeral service was held in Boxborough United Church of Christ on May 1.
