Doreen M. Haddad

Doreen Mary Haddad, 88, a lifelong resident of Pittsfield, died May 14 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Edward J. Haddad, longtime owner and operator of Haddad Rug Co., Inc., located in Pittsfield. The two were married in 1954 and celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 10, 1921, the only child of Pittsfield police officer Francis “Honk” Connors and Anna Redmond Connors, she was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
During World War II, Mrs. Haddad enlisted in the Marine Corps where she served with distinction for almost three years and from which she was discharged as a sergeant. During that time, she was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego.
Mrs. Haddad was a graduate of Berkshire Business College and worked for many years at the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co., until the birth of her first child, after which she devoted all her time to raising her family.
She was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Pittsfield.
She is survived by her three children, Deborah Haddad Holmes and her husband, Robert, of Pittsfield, Mark E. Haddad and his wife, Helene, of Milton, and Jeffrey F. Haddad and his wife, Dawn, of San Clemente, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Meagan Holmes, Molly Holmes, Matthew Holmes, John Haddad, Katie Haddad, James Haddad, Kaylee Haddad and Connor Haddad; and one great-grandchild, Javon Holmes.
A liturgy of Christian burial was celebrated May 19 in St. Joseph’s Church, by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
