Dorothy Oehmler

Dorothy (Morrissey) Oehmler, 75, of Huntington Bay, N.Y., died Aug. 28.

Mrs. Oehmler, known as “Dottie,” was a graduate of Milton High School and Radcliffe College.

The epitome of a community volunteer, she was a past president of the Harvard Club of Long Island and was serving as co-chair of its schools committee. She had served as president of the board of directors of Family Service League and was a longtime volunteer at its community thrift shop.

She was past president of the Huntington High School PATS organization and active as a volunteer captain for the Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative.

She served as a lector and Eucharistic minister at St. Patrick’s Church in Huntington.

An avid sailor, she enjoyed cruising with her husband and her family. She was known to all as a warm, caring, generous and strong person, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Oehmler; her children, Dorothy Williams, Richard Oehmler, Caroline Chamberlain, and Michael Oehmler; her grandchildren, Gene, Chris, Catie, Drew, Dorothy, Olivia, Noah, Eliza, Mark, Trey, Jackson and Callie; and her brother, John D. Morrissey.

She was the mother of the late William Oehmler.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church in Huntington on Sept. 1.
