Edward F. Morgan III

Edward F. Morgan III, of Hull and Florida, formerly of Milton, died May 1.

Born in Pittsfield in 1920 to the late Winifred A. Morgan and Edward F. Morgan Jr., he grew up in Hudson with his two brothers, the late William Morgan and Robert Morgan. He attended Hudson High School where he played baseball, football and hockey.

Mr. Morgan graduated from Holy Cross College in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and business administration. He was captain of the baseball team and held the batting title during his senior year. He had many happy memories at Holy Cross but none more special than the preseason baseball games played against the Boston Red Sox.

He served in World War II as communications officer for the Amphibious Training Base in Solomons, Md. He went on to become president of Conley Supply Co. and later served as Northeast regional manager for Jenkins Bros. Valves.

For more than 50 years, he was a member of Wollaston Golf Club where he served on numerous committees. An avid golfer and four-time winner of the Fallon Cup, Mr. Morgan once played golf with Red Sox legend Ted Williams. He was also a member of the Atlantis Golf Club in Florida where he resided in the winter.

Mr. Morgan loved Boston sports and was particularly passionate about the Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He was a longtime season-ticket holder.

He married Virginia (Hoy) Morgan in 1945 and had five children. They divided their time between Milton and Hull and, later, Florida and Hull. After her death, he married Abigail (Burns) Morgan in 2004 and they divided their time between Florida and Hull.

In addition to his second wife, he is survived by his children, Janet Morgan, of Milton, Virginia Walsh, of Hull, Edward F. Morgan, of Quincy, and William Morgan, of Hudson, Ohio; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was the father of the late Mary Lee Murphy.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on May 4. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
