Edward J. “Ed” Gormley, 72, of Endicott, N.Y; died Feb. 11 after a brief illness.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 27, 1937, he was son of the late Edward J. Gormley Sr. and Muriel Grace (Keppler) Gormley.
After moving to upstate New York with his parents in 1948, he graduated from Dryden High School in 1955 and Mohawk Valley Technical Institute in 1957. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Elmira College in 1974.
Mr. Gormley was a longtime employee of IBM Owego, holding several key positions and retiring with 36 years of service. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He finished his career with the Loral Corp. in 1995.
In his retirement, he was the board president for the Phase 20 Property Owners Association at Sea Colony in Bethany Beach, Dela., and served as a consultant for the Watson School of Engineering at Binghamton University.
Mr. Gormley was an avid golfer and enjoyed his time on the fairways with his friends, Walt Gasior and Jack Warden. He loved to read and had a passion for his sports car. He treasured his family, particularly his grandchildren, who held a special spot in his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Joanne E. (Moore) Gormley, of Endicott; his children, Steven M. Gormley and his wife, Laurie, of Hoosick
Falls, N.Y., Christopher E. Gormley, of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Jennifer A. Schrantz and her husband, Tim,
of Fredonia, N.Y., Lauri A. Webster and her husband, Karl Pastore, of Milton, and Amy L. Murphy and
her husband, Dave, of Jacksonville, Fla.; his
grandchildren, Michael Gormley and Matthew Gormley, of Hoosick Falls, Jena Schrantz, Nathan Schrantz and Samuel Schrantz, of Fredonia, Luke Pastore, of Milton, and Taylor Murphy, Allison Murphy, Reid Murphy and Meghan Murphy of Jacksonville. His former wife, Margaret H. DeGraff, also survives him.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Carol Ann Gormley, and his in-laws, Lester Moore and Anna (Goodnough) Moore.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in Our Lady of Good Counsel, Endicott, on Feb. 16. Burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden N.Y., at a later date.
