Eileen C. Hennessey

Eileen C. (Flaherty) Hennessey, of Quincy, formerly of Dorchester and North Providence, R.I., died Nov. 6.

Born in Boston, she was the loving daughter of the late Martin Flaherty and Nora Flaherty.

A secular Franciscan for 43 years and a former minister of St. Clare of Assisi Fraternity at St. Anthony’s Church in North Providence, R.I., she was a former volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Association of Rhode Island, the CCD program at St. Anthony’s Church and St. Mary’s Home in Rhode Island. She also volunteered her time at Heritage Hills Nursing Center in Smithfield, R.I.

Mrs. Hennessey was a former supervisor at the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co.

Wife of the late William J. Hennessey, she is survived by her brothers, Thomas Flaherty and his wife, Barbara, of Walpole, and Joseph Flaherty and his wife, Anne Evelyn, of Westford, formerly of Milton; 18 nieces and nephews; and 30 great-nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Marie Messinger and Veronica Flaherty.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Gregory Church, Dorchester, on Nov. 10. Burial was in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.

Donations may be made to the Carmelite Order, 61 Mount Pleasant Ave. Roxbury, MA 02119.

Arrangements were by the Dolan Funeral Home.
