Elizabeth M. Ryan

Elizabeth “Betty” M. (O’Connor) Ryan died April 20.

Born in Somerville, she was valedictorian of Notre Dame Academy’s class of 1951 and the recipient of the Emmanuel College Scholarship.

Mrs. Ryan was a 30-year resident of Milton. She formerly lived in Dorchester.

An accounting clerk for the New England Telephone Co. for 30 years, she retired in 1991.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jack Ryan; her children, Elizabeth M. Tylko, of Lincoln, Theresa A. Gilliland, of West Barnstable, John J. Ryan III, of Texas, and Carol A. Thomas, of Norwood; her siblings, Cecilia Doherty, of Quincy, and Thomas O’Connor, of Middleboro; 16 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was the daughter of the late Thomas O’Connor and Mary O’Connor, and the sister of the late Eileen Abner.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on April 26. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
