Evelyn C. Nelson, 94, of Weymouth, died Aug. 26 at Hancock Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Quincy.
Born and raised in Medford, she lived in Dorchester for 18 years and Weymouth for 20 years.
She was a graduate of Medford High School and was employed as an executive secretary for the United Fruit Co. in Boston for 47 years.
Calvary Baptist Church in Dorchester was an important part of her life. Miss Nelson served as Sunday school treasurer and taught junior church and Sunday school for many years. She was a deaconess of the church and was active in missionary programs.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling in the United States, Canada and Central America.
Daughter of the late George T. Nelson and Erminnie D. Nelson, she is survived by her niece, Carol T. Mack, of Hanover; her nephew, John H. Trefry III, of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; her great-niece, Caroline Kempf; and two great-nephews, John H. Trefry IV and Tyler E. Mack.
She was the sister of the late Phyllis M. Trefry.
A funeral service was held in the Dolan Funeral Home on Sept. 4.
