Francis J. “Frank” McGowan, 83, died at Quincy Medical Center on Feb. 19 after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Charlestown, he had resided in Quincy for the past five years.
Mr. McGowan was a retired heavy equipment mechanic of the Massachusetts Highway Department, Wellesley.
A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he was a Purple Heart and Silver Star recipient and a late member of the DAV.
He is survived by his sister, Ann T. Queally, of Milton; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Philip V. McGowan, James McGowan, Isabel Gray, Mary Mercer and Margaret Higgins.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on Feb. 23. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home.
