Francis X. “Inga” Walsh died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, on June 29.
Born in Dorchester, he also lived in Milton and Naples, Fla.
Mr. Walsh was a Hall of Fame basketball player at Milton High School and was the first basketball player inducted into Northeastern University’s inaugural Hall of Fame class. After graduating from Northeastern, he played under contract for the New York Knicks. More information about his athletic career can be found at Northeastern’s Web site for athletes, http://gonu.com.
Upon the conclusion of his playing career, Mr. Walsh became a banker in South Boston where he worked until his retirement. He was also a longtime volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in Immakolee, Fla.
An Army and Navy veteran, he served in World War II and in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn M. (Turner) Walsh; his children, Edwin P. Walsh and his wife, Cathleen, of Milton, Francis M. Walsh and his wife, Debra, of Concord, and Dennis W. Walsh and his wife, Suzanne, of Houston; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Colin, Katherine, Meagan and Caitlin Walsh.
The brother of the late H. Robert Walsh, Annedith Tomasello and Elinor Walsh, he is also survived by three dogs, Elvis, Lucy and Roger.
A memorial Mass was celebrated in St. Agatha Church. Burial was in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
