H. Gilbert Johnson, 83, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Milton, died May 17.
A graduate of Milton High School and Boston University, he served in the Navy in World War II.
He retired from Merrill Lynch. He was an avid sportsman, and served on the boards of various organizations in Portland, where he was the 1978 national president of The Arc of the US.
Husband of the late Emily (Aaberg) Johnson, he is survived by his children, Richard C. Johnson, of Washington, D.C., Nancy J. Dodge, of Beaverton, Ore., and Susan J. Hollman, of Hillsboro, Ore.; five grandchildren; and his siblings, David Johnson, of Milton, Elaine Donica, of Texas, Paul Johnson, of New York, Dorothy Flett, of Hingham, and Claire Kannegieser, of Hanover.
He was the father of the late Thomas R. Johnson.
Services were held in Portland.
