Helen Jane (Stanton) Cox, 81, died in Pennsylvania on Dec. 21.

Born in Boston, she grew up in Dorchester and lived in Milton for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Cox was a retired nurse who worked a number of jobs. She was a former nurse of Marion Manor in South Boston and a longtime volunteer at Rosie’s Place in Boston.

She was a supportive and caring wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Wife of the late John W. Cox, she is survived by her children, Joyce A. Arbutina and her husband, David, of Pennsylvania, John Christopher Cox and his wife, Ursula, of Virginia, Gerard L. Cox and his wife, Nicola, of Michigan, Daniel W. Cox and his wife, Lisa, of Quincy, Jacqueline C. O’Brien and her husband, Gregory, of Milton, and Janine O’Connor and her husband, Thomas, of New York; and 17 grandchildren.

She was the sister of the late Dorothy Donahue, Gertrude Bird, Paul Stanton, Richard Stanton, Robert Stanton, Edward Stanton and John Stanton.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on Dec. 28. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
