Henry Kyle Sullivan, a retired supervisor for the commonwealth of Massachusetts, died Oct. 13 at Highgate Manor, Dedham. He was 86 years old.
Born and raised in Fall River, he was a longtime resident of Dorchester.
He graduated from Durfee High School, class of 1941. He served as a corpsman in the US Navy during World War II. He attended Boston University School of Social Work and worked at Boston City Hospital as an orderly and later an ambulance driver. Mr. Sullivan then worked as a social worker for the city of Boston Welfare Department, which was absorbed by the commonwealth of Massachusetts Welfare Department. He retired after 26 years of serving the commonwealth, in 1981, as a supervisor.
He enjoyed writing and later drawing and painting. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 180, Dorchester Lower Mills.
He was the husband of the late Frances P. (Pisani) Sullivan. He is survived by his sons, Patrick H. Sullivan, of Cambridge, and Mark F. Sullivan, of Dorchester; his grandchildren, Erin and Amanda Sullivan; and his sister, Mary Monkouski, of Quincy.
He was the brother of the late Louise Schepis and Alice A. Sullivan.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Gregory Church, Dorchester, on Oct. 16.
