Henry W. “Hank” Young Jr. died Oct. 14 at John Scott Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Braintree, after a period of failing health.

Born in Boston, he was formerly from Dorchester. He lived in Milton for 43 years.

Mr. Young, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was retired from his position as fire lieutenant of Engine 28 for the Boston Fire Department.

He was an active retiree of Local 718, a Past Grand Knight of James J. Chittick Council #89, Knights of Columbus, Hyde Park, and a member of the Liar’s Club, Moon Island.

Husband of the late Dorothy F. (Maier) Young, he is survived by his children, Virginia Stapleton, of Easton, William Young, of Bridgewater, Theresa O’Neil, of Rockland, Nancy Glynn, of Virginia, Kathleen Allen, of Braintree, Stephen Young, of Sudbury, David Young, of Whitman, and Brian Young, of Danvers; his sister, Kathleen Connolly, of Dorchester; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was the father of the late Michael J. Young, and brother of the late John Young and Joan Thompson.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary of the Hills Church on Oct. 17. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
