Herbert H. Pekkinen, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died at John Adams Nursing Home in Quincy on May 27.
A graduate of Quincy High School, he entered the Merchant Marine and served for several years. Upon his discharge, he entered the carpentry field and worked on several construction sites around the South Shore. He also built his own home.
Mr. Pekkinen enjoyed fishing and canoeing on Herring Pond in Plymouth with his family.
Husband of the late Elizabeth (McDonald) Pekkinen, he is survived by his children, Kathryn S. Shea, of Milton, Stephen P. Pekkinen, of Quincy, Karen M. Gilmore, of Norfolk, and David T. Pekkinen, of Quincy; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Joseph James Gilmore and Kailey Mae Gilmore.
He was the brother of the late William Pekkinen.
There were no services.
