James B. Gibbons |
James Bernard Gibbons, died Oct. 27 in Braintree after a lengthy illness. A 1965 graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, he sailed as a marine engineer for 38 years on several of the world’s oceans, accumulating many stories and friends along the way. Mr. Gibbons was formerly of Milton, Quincy, Dorchester and South Boston. He was a member of the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association and the Mass Maritime Alumni Association. Son of the late Charles H. Gibbons and Eleanor E. (Wilson) Gibbons, he is survived by his brother, William T. Gibbons, of Bourne; his cousin, Patricia L. (Gibbons) Greene, of South Weymouth; his nephews, Gregory Gibbons and Matthew Gibbons; his nieces, Meghan Rodes and Christine Allenberg; a grandnephew; three grandnieces; and other cousins. He was the brother of the late Charles H. Gibbons Jr. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Brendan’s Church, Dorchester, on Nov. 1. Burial was in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. Donations may be made to the Massachusetts Maritime Alumni Association, 101 Academy Dr. Buzzards Bay, MA 02532. Arrangements were by the Dolan Funeral Home. |
