James M. Doonan Jr.

James M. Doonan Jr. died Oct. 15 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Born in Boston, he grew up in Milton. He graduated from St. Sebastian’s High School in 1975 and later from Eastern Nazarene College.

He resided in Milton until his move to Dedham 23 years ago.

Mr. Doonan was an accounting supervisor for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority for 30 years. He was past treasurer of the State Employees Union and a member of the Clover Club in Boston.

He is survived by his wife, Gretchen M. (Noeltner) Doonan; his son, Connor J. Doonan; his in-laws, Robert H. Noeltner, Christine Noeltner, Margaret Girard and Christopher Girard, all of Vermont; his siblings, Marya E. Doonan, of Florida, Katie D. McCarthy and her husband, Ed, of Milton, Rob Doonan and his wife, Karin, of Cohasset, and Jay Doonan and his wife, Katie of Needham; and nieces and nephews.

He was the son of the late Dr. James Doonan and Mary (Phelan) Doonan.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary of the Hills Church on Oct. 19. Burial was private.
