James M. Hoey

James M. Hoey, of Milton, died at home June 5 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Boston, he grew up in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Roslindale High School. He lived in Milton for the past 35 years.
A retired systems engineer of Lucent Technologies, Mr. Hoey retired in 1999 after a 45-year employment. He loved his work and was a proud member of IBEW, Local 222, the CWA, and the POW/MIA League of Families.
Mr. Hoey served with honor in the Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation.
An avid sports fan, his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Leona (Ely) Hoey; his children, Paul Joseph Ely, of Plympton, Jeannine Berman and Roseanne Marx, both of northern California, and Michelle Hoey Brooks, of Abington; his grandchildren, Spencer Marx, Haley Marx, Hannah Berman, Sarah Berman, Joshua Berman, James Michael “Seamus” Hoey II and Jessica Brooks; his sisters and brothers, Eleanor Sheldon, of Dedham, Maureen Dunn, of Randolph, John Hoey, of Easton, Francis Hoey, of Jamaica Plain, Edward Hoey, of Dedham, and Freddie Hoey, of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Agnes Gallagher, Roseanne Hoey and Mary Driscoll.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Agatha Church, on June 10. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
