James M. Shields, 51, of Rockland, died May 21.
Born in Boston, he was the son of Gertrude C. (Sullivan) Shields, of Rockland, and the late John S. Shields. He was raised and educated in Milton, graduating from Milton High School in 1976. He later attended Quincy Junior College and Suffolk University, where he was a magna cum laude recipient of a degree in criminal justice.
For the past 11 years, Mr. Shields was employed as a regional sales manager for the H.P. Hood Co.
He was an active volunteer for Rockland Youth Sports, coaching his daughter’s softball and basketball teams, and assisting with his son’s baseball team. He was an avid golfer and played in a Sunday league at Old Scottish Links Golf Course.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Julie A. (Harding) Shields; his children, Katie J. Shields, Harrison J. Shields and Mark F. Shields, all of Rockland; his siblings, John M. Shields and his wife, Maureen, of Milton, Maryellen Morse and her husband, Kevin, of Norton, William F. Shields and his wife, Maureen, of Bradford, and Elizabeth A. Harrington and her husband, Kevin, of East Bridgewater; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Mark S. Shields.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Holy Family Church, Rockland, on May 27. Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery.
