Jean Bonney

Jean (Allard) Bonney, 84, formerly of Milton, died July 10.
Mrs. Bonney and her late husband “Jim” Bonney were married in 1945. They were residents of Milton for 65 years.
Born on Oct. 15, 1925, Mrs. Bonney was the youngest of four daughters of Dr. Carlton E. and Winifred (Kemp) Allard.
She was raised in Dorchester and attended Boston University. She maintained close friendships with many of her schoolmates over the years.
She participated in the activities of Pilgrim Congregational Church and the First Parish churches of Dorchester and Milton.
She learned to roller skate in Dorchester and remained an active skater throughout her life.
Mrs. Bonney had a profound love of the water. She was a lifetime member of the Squantum and Milton yacht clubs, and an active sailor on Quincy Bay. She especially enjoyed Nantasket, where her favorite pastimes were rowing her ocean shell, walking the beach, and swimming.
Both a Red Cross and YMCA swim instructor, she generously shared her upbeat attitude and friendship as a member of the Quincy YMCA. The South Shore’s “Swim with a Special Child” program, where she volunteered for 35 years, was nearest and dearest to her heart.
An avid reader, she never stopped learning or staying idle for long.
Mrs. Bonney is survived by her three children, David, Martha, and Carla, her daughter-in-law, Alice, and sons-in-law, Stephen and Rick. She leaves six grandchildren, whom she loved and whose achievements made her very proud, James, Susan, Robin, Carlton, Abigail, and Ariel, and a great-grandson, Thorin. She is also survived by her sister, Ottilie Guerrera of Newburyport, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial was held July 20 at the Squantum Yacht Club in Quincy.
