John F. “Ted” Coughlin, 95, a retired salesman, died Dec. 21 at Colony House Nursing and Rehabilitation, Abington, after a long illness.
Born and raised in Dorchester, he was a member of the National Guard of Massachusetts during World War II.
Mr. Coughlin was an advertising salesman in the newspaper industry for over 40 years. He retired from the Record American after having worked for the Herald Traveler for over 25 years.
A 66-year Milton resident, he was a former member of the Coast Guard Power Squadron.
Boating and carpentry were his hobbies. He enjoyed making miniature structures such as dollhouses, fire stations and garages from pieces of scrap wood. His late dog, an Irish setter named Red Claire, was his constant companion.
He is survived by his wife, Claire M. (Darwak) Coughlin; his children, Patricia Celona and her husband, Joseph, of Whitman, Dr. John F. Coughlin and his wife, Meg, of Falmouth, Maine, Elaine Schaeffer and her husband, Bob, of Sanibel Island, Fla., Kathleen McCown and her husband, John McCown II, and Debra Coughlin, all of Pound Ridge, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Kristine Celona Mucci and her husband, Rick, Michael Celona and his wife, Mindy, Dario Schaeffer, John Daly McCown III, Caroline Hart McCown, Christopher Coughlin and Elizabeth Coughlin; and his great-grandchildren, Isabella Celona, Justin Mucci and Lucia Celona.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Agatha Church, 432 Adams St., on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., on Friday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. |
