John F. Mahoney

John F. “Jack” Mahoney, 74, of Marshfield, formerly of Milton, died June 16.

Mr. Mahoney enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a Milton police officer, Metropolitan District Commission police officer and spokesman, and state trooper. He most recently retired from Citizens Bank.

He graduated from Roslindale High School, served in the Coast Guard, and went on to earn Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from Suffolk University, as well as a Ph.D. from Lasalle University. An avid boater, he was a longstanding member of the Port Norfolk Yacht Club in Dorchester.

Son of the late John M. Mahoney and Margaret T. (Canavan) Mahoney, he is survived by his wife, Linda (Palmer) Mahoney; his children, Maureen Clark, of South Weymouth, Kerrie Gendreau, of Marshfield, Janice Steinberg and her husband, Kurt, of Marshfield, Christine Fennelly and her husband, Lawrence, of South Boston, and Kristin Haddigan and her husband, Patrick, of Marshfield; his sisters, Joan Deady and Geraldine Pistorio, both of Dedham; nine grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Barbara Mahoney and father-in-law of the late Paul Gendreau.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on June 21. Burial was in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
