John J. Greene, of Milton, formerly of Charlestown, Dorchester and Weymouth, died at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth on Jan. 9.

A retired employee of the Boston School Department, he had worked at Dorchester High School.

Mr. Greene was formerly a sailmaker at the Boston Naval Shipyard and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen A. (Peterson) Greene; his children, John J. Greene, of the Woodlands, Texas, Robert M. Greene, of York, Maine, and Kathleen M. Pettenati, of Abington; and his grandchildren, Jordan Greene, Rachael Greene, Conor Greene and Brooke Pettenati.

He was the brother of the late Edward Greene, Aiden Greene and William Greene.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Elizabeth Church on Jan. 15. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
