John J. Maloney, of Milton, died Oct. 9.
Born in Boston, he lived in Jamaica Plain until his move to Milton 33 years ago.
He was a retired attorney of the Massachusetts Industrial Accident Board.
Mr. Maloney was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a past member of the Carney Hospital board of trustees, the commander of VFW Post # 722 and member of American Legion Post #76, both in Jamaica Plain. He was a former president and 55-year member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society, a longtime active parishioner of St. Agatha Church, and past president of Blessed Sacrament Holy Name Society.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine M. (Griffin) Maloney, of Milton; his children, Thelma A. Poole and her husband, Kendrick, of North Hampton, N.H., John T. Maloney and his wife, Susan, of West Roxbury, Stephen C. Maloney, of Canton, and Sean P. Maloney and his wife, Amy, of Chatham, N.J.; his brothers, Thomas J. Maloney, of West Roxbury, Robert P. Maloney, of Peabody, James M. Hanifin, of Jamaica Plain, and Francis J. Hanifin, of Walpole; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was the husband of the late Thelma E. (French) Maloney and the brother of the late Mary Kenney.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on Oct. 20. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
