John J. McGovern died at New England Sinai Hospital, Stoughton, on Aug. 2.

A resident of Quincy for the past 20 years, he formerly lived in New Hampshire.

He was a retired employee of P.J. Barsanti’s and The 99 Restaurant, Boston.

Mr. McGovern was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Quincy Lodge of Elks # 943, an avid golfer and devoted Boston Red Sox fan.

He is survived by his wife, Diane M. (Romanowski) McGovern; his brother, Leo McGovern, of Connecticut; his sister-in-law, Jean L. Campbell, of Quincy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Mary McGovern, Charles McGovern, James McGovern and Theresa McGovern.

A funeral service was held in the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home on Aug. 6.
