John J. Sullivan died in Faulkner Hospital, Boston, on Jan. 19 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Boston and formerly from Mattapan, he was a Milton resident for the past 41 years. A graduate of Hyde Park High School, he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics from Northeastern University.
Mr. Sullivan retired in 2000 from his position as vice president of marketing at MKS Instruments in Andover after a 30-year employment. He later worked as a visiting senior scientist of nanotechnology at the University at Albany in New York.
He was an Army veteran and a member of the American Vacuum Society.
He is survived by his wife, Marie F. (McCabe) Sullivan; his children, Dr. John F. Sullivan and his wife, Debbie, of Kentucky, Cheryl A. Sweeting, of Milton, Thomas J. Sullivan and his wife, Mary Carol, of Georgia, and Kathleen M. Davis and her husband, William, of Medfield; his grandchildren, Jarrett, Kevin, Michelle, Kathryn, Ivy, Michael, Liam, Delia, Molly and Jake; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Elizabeth’s Church on Jan. 23. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
