Joseph A. Griffin died at home May 12.

Formerly from Mattapan and Jamaica Plain, he had lived in Brookline for the past 35 years.

A retired police officer and automobile dealer, he was a late member of Dedham American Legion Post #18 and West Roxbury Lodge of Elks #10.

Mr. Griffin was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. (Farrell) Griffin; his children, Donna Griffin, of California, and Thomas Griffin, of Pennsylvania; his sister, Arleen Gertsen, of New Hampshire; two grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Mary Robinson and John Griffin.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on May 17. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
