Joseph M. Maguire died Dec. 24 in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, after a brief illness.
Born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, he had been a Mattapan resident for the past 45 years.
Mr. Maguire was a graduate of Boston College High School, a 1952 graduate of Boston College, and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He retired from his position as a systems analyst at Boston Edison, Boston, in 1992 after a 35-year employment.
Husband of the late Anne Marie (Rush) Maguire, he is survived by his children, Michael J. Maguire and his wife, Maria, of Squantum, Mark E. Maguire, of Quincy, Gregory J. Maguire, of Mattapan, Stephen P. Maguire and his wife, Sandra, of Readville, Joseph M. “Jay” Maguire Jr. and his wife, Catherine, of Franklin, Dr. Richard J. Maguire and his wife, Gwyneth, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Paul C. Maguire and his wife, Joanne, of Easton; his brothers, John Maguire, of Falmouth, and James Maguire, of Milton; 13 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Gregory Church, Dorchester, on Dec. 29. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
