Michael James “Jim” Connolly, 80, of Quincy, formerly of Dorchester and South Dennis, died at Quincy Medical Center on Jan. 30.
Born and raised in Dorchester, he graduated from English High School and joined the Air Force.
Upon his return from the service in 1956, he went to work for New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. He was employed there until his retirement 37 years later.
Mr. Connolly was involved in St. Brendan’s Cub Scouts in Dorchester where he received the Silver Beaver Award for his volunteer efforts. He was a volunteer manager for St. Ann Church’s junior band in the Neponset section of Dorchester for many years.
He served on the board of directors for Project Hope, a charity run by the Little Sisters of the Assumption in Boston. Project Hope provides shelter, low-income housing and a food pantry.
After his retirement from the telephone company, he moved to South Dennis in Cape Cod where he was a member of the Irish American Club.
Husband of the late Delorise (Spencer) Connolly, he is survived by his children, Mark Connolly and his wife, Roberta, of Waltham, and Eileen L. Connolly, of Quincy; his son-in-law, Shawn Scoville, of Norwell; his grandchildren, Michael Scoville and Kristen Scoville, both of Norwell; his brother, Rev. Mark Connolly, of Stamford, Conn.; his nephews, William McLaughlin, James McLaughlin and John Martin; and his niece, Claire Martin.
He was the father of the late Patricia Scoville and brother of the late Mary Martin, Francis Connolly and Kathleen McLaughlin.
A funeral service was held in the Dolan Funeral Home on Feb. 4. Burial was in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
