M. Marie Cannon

M. Marie (Cassidy) Cannon, formerly of Milton and Chocorua, N.H., died Nov. 4 in Portland, Maine.

Born on June 6, 1926, she grew up in Milton, and was the daughter of the late George R. Cassidy and Margaret L. (Mahoney) Cassidy.

She married her husband, LeGrand “Lee” Cannon III, on June 27, 1954. They raised their family in Milton and she worked at the Internal Revenue Service in Boston until 1992.

During their retirement years, Mrs. Cannon and her husband enjoyed spending time with family in Chocorua, traveling, and taking various courses through Elderhostel and continuing education programs.

Following a temporary move to Chocorua and the death of her husband in 1999, she returned to Milton where she lived for four years until moving to Maine to be closer to her children and family.

She loved to sing and learn, and attended various music and lecture programs, as well as tai chi and cribbage.

Her friends liked to tease her about snitching the sugar packets and creamers at the continental breakfasts that she frequented. She had a mischievous sense of humor.

Mrs. Cannon was beloved by her family, who were blessed to be close to her toward the end of her life.

She is survived by her children, LeGrand Cannon IV and Laura-Marie Cannon; her grandchildren, LeGrand Cannon V, Brooks Donald Cannon and Lindsay Beth Cannon; her son-in-law, Sean William Kerwin; a friend, Jennifer Ann Cobo; her siblings-in-law, Margaret Peabody Cannon, Winthrop Peabody Cannon and Lydia Cannon; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins.

She was the sister-in-law of the late Jeannette Gannon Glaws.

A Celebration of Life service was held at St. Andrew’s-In-The-Valley in Tamworth, N.H., on Nov. 13. Burial was in the memorial garden.

Donations may be made to charity.
