Marguerite “Deet” Hickey Hern, 83, formerly of Milton and Centerville, died Aug. 28 at her daughter’s home in Scituate.
A graduate of Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y., she raised her family in Milton before
spending her later years with her husband in Centerville.
Wife of the late John D. Hern, she was the mother of Kathleen Hern Dray and husband, Robert, of Brighton, John D. Hern Jr., of Hanson, Anne Hern Scanlon, of Plymouth, Maureen M. Hern, of Barnstable, Margaret C. Hern of Brighton, Amy Nutter and her husband, Steven, of Falmouth, Rosemary Lockwood and her husband, David, of Scituate, Peter A. Hern and his wife, Susan, of Hingham, Tracy Hern McGreevy, of Calif., and James Leo Hern and his wife, Edwina, of Easton.
She is survived by 18 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, and by William A. Hickey Jr., of Hanover, N.H. and Joanne H. Moore, of Peabody. She was predeceased by her siblings Mary Murphy, Thomas Hickey, Eleanor Chew Horrigan, and Jeanne O’Callahan.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Elizabeth Church, Milton, on Aug 31. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
