Mary E. Melby

Mary E. (O’Brien) Melby, 77, died July 27 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
Born in Saint Paul, Minn., she graduated from the University of Minnesota and became a registered nurse.
Mrs. Melby lived in Milton for 45 years and summered in Friendship, Maine, for the past 25 years.
She enjoyed her garden and flowers and was a member of the Milton Garden Club. She won various awards for her flower garden and arrangements.
She also volunteered as a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, painted in her earlier years, and enjoyed reading.
Wife of the late Dr. James C. Melby, she is survived by her children, Christian L. Melby, of Milton, and Elizabeth (Melby) Wells, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Adam Wells, Nicholas Wells and Lily Melby; and seven cousins, Margaret Gagnon-Pollard, Denise Gagnon, Charles Gagnon, George Gagnon, Catherine Velker, Judy Nugent and Patrick Nugent.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Elizabeth Church on July 30.
