Mary “Mollie” (Hayward) Herilhy, a longtime resident of Marstons Mills, died Jan. 21.
Born in Boston, she graduated from Roxbury’s Notre Dame Academy in 1939 and from Fisher Business School in 1942.
Mrs. Herlihy was employed at Otis Elevator for six years as an assistant accountant and later as deputy
tax collector for the town of Milton for 12 years. She had also worked for Citizens Bank on Cape Cod for 10 years.
A resident of Milton for 48 years, she was a communicant and member of the Guild at St. Mary of the Hills Church.
In 1983, she moved to Marstons Mills, where she was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville and served on the Altar Society and the Guild. she also volunteered preparing meals at Noah’s, a homeless shelter in Hyannis.
Wife of the late Dr. John P. Herlihy, she is survived by her children, David Herlihy, Joan Herlihy, Michelle Herlihy, Jonathan Herlihy and Maura Kinnealey; her stepchildren, Jack Herlihy and Mary “Bette” Parker, both of California; her “adopted daughter,” Deborah Hennessey; her siblings, Paul Herlihy, Catherine “Katie” Herlihy and David Herlihy; six grandchildren, Kaethe Herlihy, John-David Herlihy, Patrick Herlihy, Frederick Herlihy, George Herlihy and Michael Kinnealey; three great-grandchildren Marlew Herlihy, Reed Herlihy and Loren Zorrillo; and two step-granddaughters, Dianne Wright and Susie Kennelly of California.
She was the sister of the late Henry Hayward
and William Hayward and grandmother of the late Jay Kistler.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in
St. Elizabeth’s Church on Jan. 23. Burial was in
Milton Cemetery.
