Mary Margaret Power

Mary Margaret (Johnston) Power, 82, died at her home in Milton on Sept. 27.
Born in Calvert, Newfoundland, she immigrated to the United States with her sister, Eleanor, in 1950.
Mrs. Power worked at the Harley Hospital and later for the commonwealth of Massachusetts. She retired at age 72 after working for 27 years.
She enjoyed dancing, traveling, and taking care of her family. She also volunteered as a den mother for Cub Scouts at St. Peter’s Church in Dorchester and gave driving lessons to the Sisters of St. Joseph who taught at St. Peter’s School.
Mrs. Power baked food for the homeless shelter at the Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain. She was active in the Ladies’ Auxiliary at St. Mary of the Hills Church. She bowled in the ladies’ league at the Lucky Strike Bowling Alley in Dorchester and Cunningham Park Bowling League.
Wife of the late James J. Power, she is survived by her children, Robert J. Power, of Plymouth, Carl S. Power, of Milton, John P. Power, of Hyde Park, Dianne M. Feeney, of Milton, David M. Power, of Quincy, and Kenneth J. Power, of Fall River; her longtime friend, John O’Donnell, of Weymouth; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Eleanor Ryan, of Quincy, and Anna Windsor, Josephine Weatherton and Michael Johnston, all of Newfoundland.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 30 in St. Mary of the Hills Church. Burial was in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
