Mary Queally

Mary (O’Halloran) Queally, of Milton, died May 18, one day before her 75th birthday.

She arrived in Boston from her birthplace of County Galway, Ireland, in 1954.

She resided in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Boston Business School before working for Polaroid Corp. Mrs. Queally later took on the role of managing the family plumbing business.

She married Joseph Queally, a native of County Clare, Ireland, in 1960 and they raised four children in a loving home in Milton.

Mrs. Queally loved life and spending time with family and friends. She believed in helping others, which was reflected in her charitable efforts with hospice, My Brother’s Keeper and other organizations.

She had a passion for the Irish arts, including Irish music, step and set dancing. She and her family enjoyed great times at the family’s second homes in Doolin, County Clare, Ireland and Hillsboro Beach, Fla. She also enjoyed golfing at Wollaston Golf Club and swimming at the Quincy YMCA with her girlfriends.

Her favorite pastime, however, was spending time with her 12 grandchildren. Tea parties were her specialty. She developed a unique and special relationship with each of her grandchildren and they all adored her.

Her natural wit and charm captivated children and adults. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Joseph P. Queally; her children, Bernadette M. Lundbohm and her husband, Steven, Joseph P. Queally Jr. and his wife, Catherine, Brian T. Queally and his wife, Jill, and Desmond J. Queally and his wife, Denise, all of Milton; her grandchildren, Steven Lundbohm, Erik Lundbohm, Ava Lundbohm, Joseph Queally, Seamus Queally, Liam Queally, Seamus Queally, Tadhg Queally, Roisin Queally, Fionnuala Queally, Caroline Queally and Shane Queally; her siblings, Frances McManus, of Ireland, and Joan Brooks, Agnes Mahoney, Eileen Austen and John O’Halloran, all of England; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Elizabeth Church on May 23. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.

Donations may be made to New England Connection for PKU and Allied Disorders (www.necpad.org), P.O. Box 3235, Woburn, MA 01888.

Arrangements were by the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home.
