Rev. Msgr. Thomas J. Daly

Rev. Msgr. Thomas J. Daly died April 4.

Most recently a resident at Regina Cleri, Boston, he was raised in St. Peter’s Parish in Dorchester.

Msgr. Daly served for 33 years at St. John’s Seminary. He served as rector from 1986 until 1991, as well as vice rector, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, and a longtime faculty member.

He was a former teacher at Cardinal O’Connell Seminary, Jamaica Plain, and assistant at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, Scituate. He served in the chancery office of the Archdiocese of Boston until his retirement in 2000.

A member of the ordination class of 1952, Msgr. Daly graduated from Boston College High School in 1944 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John’s Seminary, a Master of Arts degree in French literature from Boston College, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in humanistic studies from Tufts College.

He touched many lives and was a teacher, mentor, friend and counselor to many individuals in the United States and other nations, including Ireland and France.

Son of the late Thomas Daly and Agnes (Cusack) Daly, he is survived by his brother, Robert F. Daly and his wife, Mary, of Milton; his nephews, Thomas P. Daly, of South Carolina, and Stephen M. Daly and his wife, Melissa, of Florida; and his grandnephew, Thomas F. Daly.

A funeral Mass was concelebrated in St. Agatha Church, with Cardinal Sean O’Malley as the principal celebrant, on April 8. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
