Richard H. Meehan, 81, a retired real estate broker, died Feb. 2.
Born Aug. 29, 1927, in Dorchester’s Savin Hill section, he moved to Quincy, where he resided until his death.
Partners with his father in the wool business, J.P. Meehan Inc. on Boston’s Summer Street, after he graduated from Boston College in 1950, he switched careers to real estate in 1970. He sold houses to several family generations in the Milton area until retiring in 2007.
He served in Newfoundland during World War II, until his honorable discharge from the Coast Guard in 1946.
Mr. Meehan enjoyed the longest membership, 65 years, at Wollaston Golf Club. He joined as a junior member at the age of 17 and is a past president. He also holds the course record, shooting a 61 in 1957.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne (Connolly) Meehan; his children, Valerie Farretta and her husband, Michael, of Rochester, Richard S. Meehan and his wife, Nancy, of Wakefield, R.I., and Jeff L. Meehan, of Cohasset; and three granddaughters, Katrina Meehan, Shannon Meehan and Natasha Meehan, all of Wakefield, R.I.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on Feb. 6. Burial was in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
