Robert W.F. Mahoney died at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on April 6.
Born in Boston, he was a graduate of St. Columbkille Elementary School and English High School. A 33-year resident of Milton, he moved to Braintree 10 years ago.
Mr. Mahoney was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
A 23-year employee of the MBTA, he retired in 1991.
He was a former member of the Quincy Elks and past commander of the Milton American Legion Post 114. He reached into the community with his fellow Legionnaires to provide hours of fun, food and relaxation to hundreds of special-needs adults who, through Quincy-based Work Inc., were able to enjoy independence and self care.
He is survived by his wife, Mary J. (Coleman) Mahoney; his children, Deborah A. Lasis and her husband, John, of Milton, Christopher W. Mahoney and his wife, Carol, and Robert W.F. Mahoney Jr., all of Braintree; his grandchildren, Jessica Miceli, Jonathan Lasis, Matthew Mahoney and Brendon Mahoney; his adopted daughter, Martha Petrosius; and his adopted grandchildren, Jennifer Petrosius and Allison Petrosius.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Agatha
Church on April 9. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
