Ruth A. Nutting

Ruth A. (Michaud) Nutting, 86, of Foxboro, formerly of Milton, died at her home Feb. 4.

Born in Boston, she grew up in Dorchester. After graduating from Dorchester High School for Girls in 1941, she attended Boston Clerical School and went to work for the John Hancock Co. in Boston.

In November 1945, she married Dorchester resident Howard G. Nutting. After nine years in Dorchester, they spent five years in Westwood and eventually settled in Milton, where they raised their five children. Mr. Nutting survives his wife.

She was an active 51-year member of First Congregational Church, where she was involved in many clubs and activities, and a volunteer for the Milton chapter of The Salvation Army for eight years.

Mrs. Nutting was employed by the town of Milton as the assistant town accountant for 18 years. After retiring, the Nuttings moved to Osterville, where she was able to enjoy her love of the beach.

Her interests included knitting, sewing, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. An avid traveler, she saw much of the United States, visited China and cruised to the Panama Canal.

She is also survived by her children, William Nutting and his wife, Lynne, of Norwood, Kenneth Nutting and his wife, Mary, of Foxboro, Bruce Nutting and his wife, Michele, of Marshfield, Jeffrey Nutting and his wife, Renee, of Milton, and Deborah Godfrey and her husband, Albert, of North Attleboro; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Annabelle Shepherd, of Wrentham; two nieces; and two grandnephews.

She was the daughter of the late Ralph Michaud and Catherine Michaud.

A memorial service will be held in First Congregational Church, 495 Canton Ave., on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. Private burial was in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
