Ruth J. (Cowan) Ovesen died at her home, in the company of her family, on Nov. 26.
Born in Somerville, Mrs. Ovesen resided in Roslindale prior to her move to Hanover 10 years ago.
A graduate of Hyde Park High School, she retired from her supervisory position with the U.S. Postal Service at South Postal Annex, Boston after a
20-year employment.
She was a member of the Hanover Council on Aging and a breast cancer survivor.
The wife of the late Chester D. Ovesen, she is survived by her children, David E. Ovesen, of Milton, Richard C. Ovesen, of Roslindale, Roy D. Ovesen, of Atlanta, and Ruth C. Chinetti, of Hanover; her 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Donald E. Ovesen; and sister of the late Joseph Cowan.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Holy Name Church, West Roxbury on Nov. 30. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, West Roxbury.
Donations may be made to charity.
